Tichá dohoda — named after the Czech translation of Elia Kazan’s novel and film The Arrangement — was founded in Prague in 1986 by singer, guitarist and songwriter Dan Šustr and Jiří Šimeček, drummer of the legendary Czech new-wave band Letadlo.
After the original post-new-romantic line-up split, singer and keyboard player Blanka Šrůmová joined the band. Together they became one of the most important and innovative Czech rock acts of the 1990s, combining British-influenced guitar pop with a style of their own that they called underpop.
The band released the first Czech unplugged album, UnplugGag, in 1993 and built a catalogue of enduring songs including Marioneta, Kotva a kříž, Tulák po hvězdách and Večírek osamělých srdcí. Their independent attitude often put them at odds with the local music establishment, but it also made them pioneers of the Czech indie scene.
Tichá dohoda returned for its 25th anniversary in 2011. Zuzana Vintrová became the lead singer in 2014; the renewed line-up released Kladno–Manchester, Achtung 30! and Hlasitá revoluce and continues to perform today.
